The menu bar and the toolbar are missing in Internet Explorer on Windows Vista or Windows XP or in Windows Explorer on Windows XP

Method 1

If you are using Internet Explorer 9, click ALT on the keyboard and the menu bar will show up.

If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 8, visit the following Microsoft Website for more information:

If method 1 is not working, try to press F11 on the keyboard because the Internet Explorer may in full screen mode.

If method 2 is not working, try the method below:

1. Close all open Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows.
2. Open Register Editor.
   • For Windows Vista and Windows 7, Click Start, type regedit in Search programs and files box, and then click regedit.exe in Programs.
   • Form Windows XP, Click Start, and then click Run , and then In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: 
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
4. Use one or both of the following steps, as appropriate for your situation:
   • For Windows Explorer: In the details pane, locate the Explorer subkey, and then open it. In the details pane, locate the ITBarLayout value. Right-click this value, and then click Delete.
   • For Internet Explorer: In the details pane, locate the WebBrowser subkey, and then open it. In the details pane, locate the ITBarLayout value. Right-click this value, and then click Delete.
5. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

1. Close all open Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\ShellBrowser
5. In the details pane, locate the ITBarLayout value. Right-click this value, and then click Delete.
6. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
