Introduction

The country of Uruguay has scheduled a modified daylight-saving time program for 2004 and 2005. This modified daylight-saving time program is different from the daylight-saving time program that applies to the default time zone that is used for Uruguay in Microsoft Windows operating systems. The default time zone for Uruguay is Brasilia -3:00. The daylight-saving time program for the Brasilia -3:00 time zone is:
  • Daylight-saving time starts at 2:00 A.M. on the third Sunday of October 2004. The third Sunday of October 2004 is October 17, 2004.
  • Daylight-saving time ends at 2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday of February 2005. The second Sunday of February 2005 is February 8, 2005.
The new daylight-saving time program in Uruguay is:
  • daylight-saving time starts at 2:00 A.M. on the third Sunday of September 2004. The third Sunday of September 2004 is September 19, 2004.
  • daylight-saving time ends at 2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday of March 2005. The second Sunday of March 2005 is March 13, 2005.
Because this is a new daylight-saving time program in Uruguay, computers that are running a Microsoft Windows operating system do not adjust the time zone to reflect the change to daylight-saving time. This step-by-step article describes how to change the default behavior of the Uruguay time zone.
