A sender's e-mail address appears to a recipient as two distinct addresses if the sender's display name contains a comma and extended characters in Exchange 2000 or in Exchange 2003

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When a user sends an e-mail message, the e-mail message that is received by the recipient contains incorrect e-mail address information in the From box. The sender's e-mail address appears as two distinct addresses. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The organization that the user belongs to is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
  • The sender's display name contains a comma and extended characters.
When the recipient of the message replies, that recipient receives a non-delivery report (NDR) because the From box contains incorrect e-mail address information.
