  • If a hidden column does not contain any text, the Remove Hidden Data add-in will not remove the column.

Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Same color text will not be removed in all scenarios.
  • Headers and footers in PowerPoint are not removed because they are not hidden data.
  • Unlike other Office programs that support SmartTags, SmartTags are not turned off and the appropriate text is left in place.
  • VBA macros are unexpectedly removed from PowerPoint files.

Excel and Microsoft Word

  • If multiple objects are layered on top of each other, the objects that are hidden below the top object may not be made visible to the user.

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • If a file previously contained a Microsoft Visual Basics for Applications (VBA) macro, the Remove Hidden Data add-in cannot remove certain traces of the VBA macro.

  • Single-file Web pages that have been reviewed by the Remove Hidden Data add-in may contain the name of a randomly generated temporary file in the following form:
    file:///c:/number/
The number that is used in this name is based on the file name of the single-file Web page and cannot be traced back to your computer.
  • Long documents can take a long time to process, up to 5-10 minutes with some documents.
  • When you use the Remove Hidden Data add-in from a command line to work with a collection of documents, if your Office program starts a dialog box, the Remove Hidden Data add-in will pause until the dialog box is closed. If the dialog box remains open beyond 120 seconds, the program will quit and the Remove Hidden Data add-in will continue to the next file, or close if it has reached the last file.
  • If Allow fast saves is turned on, you may have to run the Remove Hidden Data add-in multiple times to remove all data. To turn off this feature, click Options on the Tools menu, click the Save tab, and then click to clear the Allow fast saves check box.
