Symptoms

In Microsoft Excel, you try to change the data type in a Parameter Query in Microsoft Query. When you do this, the Data type list box is not available.

Cause

This behavior is a design change in Microsoft Query. The Data type list box is unavailable (turned off) when the database driver supports the SQLDescribeParam command. This behavior does not occur when you use Microsoft Query with a Microsoft Access database.
