Summary

This article describes the Microsoft Office XP issues that are fixed in the Office XP Post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package that is dated September 12, 2003.

Issues that are fixed in the hotfix package

The following issue has been fixed in this hotfix package.
  • When you try to open or to save a file in an Office XP program that is running in a Terminal Server session, the Office XP program may unexpectedly quit. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The following issues have also been fixed in this hotfix package but were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.
  • When you try to attach a Lotus file as a mail merge data source in Microsoft Word, you receive the following error message and cannot complete your mail merge:
    Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
    When you view the details of the error message, you receive an error signature that is similar to one of the following:

  • If you run Remote Desktop on Microsoft Windows XP and connect to a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Terminal Services-based computer (client computer), when you run a Microsoft Office program on the client computer and then click Open on the File menu, you cannot open a folder on the client computer and you receive the following error message:
    You do not have access to the \\foldername folder. Contact your system administrator.

  • The optimized version of this hotfix is a post-Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2) hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office XP SP-2 installed.

  • The optimized version of this hotfix requires Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0 or later.

  • The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix with Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP-1). However, Microsoft has not tested this fix on Office XP SP-1 to the same extent as on Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2). If you install this hotfix on a computer with Office XP SP-1 installed, some file conflicts might occur. Microsoft supports this configuration, but Microsoft does not recommend this configuration.

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.

This hotfix is not replaced by any later hotfix.

You do not have to create or modify any registry keys to activate any hotfixes that are contained in this package.
