Symptoms

When you attempt to install Microsoft Office 2000, you receive an internal error 2735 that references the Out128.dll file.

The verbose log file contains the following:

Cause

This behavior can occur if the original Office 2000 CD-ROM is dirty, damaged, or defective.

Resolution

To resolve this behavior, clean your CD-ROM with a commercially available CD-ROM cleaner and scratch remover.

If cleaning the CD-ROM does not work, contact Microsoft or your local vender to obtain a replacement copy.

To install Office 2000, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Insert your Office 2000 CD-ROM.
  4. Under the Install/Uninstall tab, click Install.
  5. Follow the Installation Wizard to complete the installation.
