Symptoms

When you apply the SR-1 update from the Office Update Web site, the Windows Installer may not be updated to version 1.1, and your installation of Office 2000 CD-2 may not be updated to SR-1.

Cause

The download package from the Office Update site does not contain an internal switch that allows for the update of the Windows Installer and Office CD-2, after the required restart for the SR-1 update of Office CD-1.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, run the SR-1 update again. This updates both the Windows Installer to version 1.1 (if it is not already at version 1.1 or later) and Office CD-2 (if it is installed).

If necessary, download the SR-1 update again from the Office Download Center:

More information

Because the Windows Installer is not updated to version 1.1, you cannot update your Office installation to SP-2. For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To determine the version of the Windows Installer that is on your computer, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type Msi.dll.
  3. In the Look in list, select the drive that contains your Windows folder.
  4. Click Find Now.
  5. Right-click Msi.dll and then click Properties.
  6. In the Msi.dll Properties dialog box, click the Version tab. If the version number for Msi.dll is 1.00.5104.0, you have the Windows Installer 1.0 installed. In this case, you must run the SR-1 update again to update the Windows Installer to version 1.1. If your version of Msi.dll is later than 1.00.5104.0, you do not need to update the Windows Installer.
