"Account verification system is having trouble" error message when you try to sign in by using a work or school account

PROBLEM

Assume that you're a company admin who has Microsoft Azure Multi-Factor Authentication enabled. If you try to sign in by using your work or school account, you receive the following error message:
Sorry, our account verification system is having trouble. This could be temporary, but if you see it again, you might want to contact your admin.
This issue occurs if your response contains invalid input.

SOLUTION

To resolve this issue, do one or more of the following:
  • If you had selected the call option to complete the sign-in process, make sure that you respond by pressing the pound key (#) on the telephone.
  • If you had selected the text option to complete the sign-in process, make sure that you enter the correct verification code.
  • If you had set up other options for security verification, click Other verification options, and then try again by selecting a different option. Also, make sure that your phone numbers are correct in your user account settings.
