Table markers do not appear when you perform a Web Query in Excel on a secure Web site

Symptoms

When you try to use a Web Query to import external data from a secure Web site, the table marker icons do not appear on the Web page.

You expect the table marker icons to appear so that you can select the tables that you want to import.

Cause

This problem can occur when you click No in response to the following message that appears when you navigate to the secure site:
This page contains both secure and nonsecure items.
Do you want to display the nonsecure items?

Workaround

To work around this problem, click Yes in response to the messages that appear when you navigate to a secure Web site.

More information

When you type a Universal Resource Locator (URL) address for a secure Web site (https://) in the New Web Query dialog box, and then click GO, the following behavior occurs:
  1. The following message may appear:
    You are about to leave a secure Internet connection. It will be possible for others to view information you send.
    Do you want to continue?
    • If you click Yes, the following message appears:
      This page contains both secure and nonsecure items.
      Do you want to display the nonsecure items?
    • If you click No, the following message appears:
      This page contains both secure and nonsecure items.
      Do you want to display the nonsecure items?
  2. The following Security Information dialog box appears:
    This page contains both secure and nonsecure items.

    Do you want to display the nonsecure items?
    • If you click Yes, the secure Web site appears and you are able to select, and then import the tables that you want.
    • If you click No, the secure Web site appears but the arrow icons next to the tables that may be imported do not appear, and you are unable to import the tables that you want.
