MDAC version 2.6 and later do not contain Jet or Desktop ODBC drivers

Starting with Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.6, MDAC no longer contains Jet components. In other words, MDAC versions 2.6 and later do not include Microsoft Jet, Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider, and the ODBC Desktop Database Drivers.

How to install the Jet 4.0 components

For more information about how to install the latest Jet 4.0 service pack, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: If you are installing MDAC 2.6 or later, and you want to install the Jet components, follow the instructions in article 239114 to download a redistributable version of Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 (SP8). This is a complete set of Jet 4.0 components for Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

To install the Jet 4.0 components, follow these steps:

1. Download MDAC 2.6 or later, and then download the redistributable Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 from article 239114.
2. In Windows Explorer, double-click the Mdac_typ.exe file that you downloaded in step 1 to start the MDAC setup.
3. Restart your computer.
4. In Windows Explorer, double-click the redistributable Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 that you downloaded in step 1 to start the Jet 4.0 Setup.
5. Restart your computer.

The computer now has the Jet 4.0 SP8 components. The ODBC Desktop Drivers and Visual FoxPro ODBC driver, that are no longer included with MDAC 2.6, are included with the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system that contains MDAC 2.5. Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) is also included with MDAC 2.5.

Microsoft Windows XP also contains the ODBC Desktop Drivers and Visual FoxPro Driver. For Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 95, and Microsoft Windows 98, you must install MDAC 2.5 or an earlier version to obtain these drivers.

These ODBC Desktop Drivers and Visual FoxPro ODBC driver are also included with Microsoft Office 2000 and Microsoft Office XP. To download the Visual FoxPro ODBC driver, visit the following Web site:
