This article describes how to view and to troubleshoot events that are logged by Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Microsoft Office 365 in Event Viewer.

All client-side logging is viewable in Event Viewer. To view all events that are related to Office Professional Plus for Office 365, follow these steps:
  1. Open Event Viewer.
  2. Expand Windows Logs, and then expand Application.

  3. In the Actions pane, click Filter Current Log.
  4. In the Event sources box, click to select the Office Software Protection Platform Service check box and the OSA check box.
  5. Click OK.

Event Viewer error codes

After you locate the Event Viewer logs, you can use the following guidelines to interpret the logs.

Session state

The following three errors indicate that there was an issue when Office Subscription Agent (OSA) tried to wake up, to check its local data store, or to query Office Software Protection Platform (OSPP) for Office license state information:
  • StartSession:GetPid4
  • StartSession:GetState
  • StartSession

Subscription state

The following three errors indicate that Office Subscription Service (OSS) responded with incorrect or malformed data:
  • CheckOsubStatus
  • MarkPid4Deprovisioned
  • Malformed Arguments. UpdateMessageForOSSStatus
The following two errors indicate that OSA cannot write to its own hive in the system registry. This might be a registry permissions issue.
  • GetKey
  • AddPid4Index

OSPP failures

The following three errors indicate that there was an issue when OSPP was called:
  • StartSession:GetSubscriptionSKUList
  • ActivateProduct
  • SLActivateProduct failed with error: 0x<code>

OSPP events

The following five errors indicate that OSPP returned an error to OSA during a specified action:
  • Calling SLActivateProduct
  • InstallProofOfPurchase
  • ActivateProduct
  • ResolveGetKey:GetPid4
  • ActivateProduct

OSAUI

The following five errors indicate that there was an issue when OSA trying to perform an indicated action:
  • Publisher:GetTicket
  • Publisher:GetMachineToRemove
  • Listener:CreateNamedPipe //Multiple entries could indicate systematic problem on start
  • RemoveMachine
  • ListMachines

Error code index

The following table lists the error codes that Office Professional Plus may display. The same text may be displayed together with various error codes, and each error code indicates a different underlying cause. This table clarifies and elaborates on the information that is embedded in these codes.

OSPP was unable to activate the TBL key that is provided by OSS. Try to retrieve a new TBL key by running the OSAUI.exe /K command. If this does not work, run the OSAUI.exe /F command.

The computer was deprovisioned. The issue occurs if the user selected the computer to be removed from the subscription account while the user was trying to activate the user's subscription on an additional computer. Run the
OSAUI.exe /K command to activate the subscription on the computer.

This error should never occur. If it occurs, it indicates that there is a data mismatch between the user's computer and OSS.

Run the OSAUI.exe /F command to resolve this issue.

Follow the instructions to retry or to cancel. If the user cancels, OSA may prompt the user again (in up to 24 hours) to remove a computer from the subscription.

The OSA service could not be started. Check that the Microsoft Office 2010 Subscription Agent service is running as a network service. To do this, right-click the service, click Properties, and then click the Log On tab. If the problem persists, try to repair Office Professional Plus through Control Panel.

OSA received an error from Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant. If the problem persists, use Control Panel to uninstall Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant and to repair Office Professional Plus. The user should be prompted to reinstall Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant.
