OFF2000: "Another Version of This Product Is Already Installed" Error Message When You Update Network Client

Symptoms

When you run Setup for Microsoft Office 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

Cause

You may receive this error message if all of the following are true:
You created an administrative installation of Office 2000.
Using this administrative installation, you installed Office 2000 onto a network client.
You updated this administrative installation with the Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a Update.
Either you changed the path to this administrative installation so that it contains a space, or the path originally contained a space.
On the network client where Office 2000 was already installed, you ran Setup.exe from this updated administrative installation.

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
1.Remove any spaces from the path to your administrative installation.
2.On the network client, run Setup.exe again from the administrative installation.
