OFF2000: Only One Copy of Ouactrl.ocx File Is Updated by UA Control Security Update

When you install the UA Control Security update, only one copy of the Ouactrl.ocx file is updated on your hard disk.

NOTE: The version that is installed by the Office 2000 programs is version 1.01.0009. The updated version of this control is 2.0.

Only one copy of Ouactrl.ocx is updated if both of the following are true:

• You have more than one Office 2000 program installed.
• You installed these programs in different folders. For example, you installed Office 2000 Professional into the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office folder, and you installed Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000 version 2.0 into the C:\Program Files\PhotoDraw folder.

The last Office 2000 program that is installed writes the full path to that installation in the Path string value of the following key in the Windows Registry: The folder path that is specified by this Path string value is used by the UA Control Security update, and the copy of Ouactrl.ocx in this path is the only one to be updated.

It is not necessary to have all copies of the Ouactrl.ocx file updated on your disk drive. Only the last copy that is installed is used by all Office 2000 programs.

To verify that the update has been applied to all Office 2000 programs, do steps similar to the following in each program:

1. Start Microsoft Excel.
2. Click the Office Assistant, and then type copy a formula.
3. Click Search.
4. Click Copy only formulas.
5. Follow the steps listed in the "Copy only values, formulas, comments, or cell formats" Help topic.
6. When you get to step 3, click Paste area.
   
   Normally, you see a pop-up window displayed with a description of the term "paste area". If you do not see this pop-up window, this functionality was turned off by the new version of the Ouactrl.ocx file.
7. In step 4, click Show Me.
   
   Normally, the Paste Special dialog box is automatically displayed. If you do not see this dialog box, this functionality was turned off by the new version of the Ouactrl.ocx file.
