Symptoms

When you upgrade from an earlier version of Microsoft Office, your AutoCorrect list may not be available in the Office 2000 programs.

Cause

Your AutoCorrect list may not be available if all of the following are true:
  • You created an .ops file using the Office Profile Wizard (OPW).
  • The .ops file contains an AutoCorrect file (.acl) from the profile under which you created the .ops file. By default, the Office Profile Wizard imports your .acl file when it creates the .ops file.
  • You installed Office, and the .ops file that you created was applied during the installation. For example, you created a transform using the Custom Installation Wizard, you imported the .ops file into the Custom Installation Wizard, and you installed Office with this transform.
When you start an Office 2000 program for the first time, it checks to see whether you have a .acl file in your profile. If one exists, the Office program does not try to migrate your .acl file from a previous Office version. Because an .acl file exists in your profile, due to the application of the .ops file during Office Setup, your .acl file is not migrated. The assumption is that the .ops file was applied to your computer to configure Office the same way as the computer on which the .ops file was created.

Workaround

To prevent this problem from occurring, you need to prevent the .acl file from being imported into the .ops file. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Proflwiz.ini file in any text editor.
  2. In the [ExcludeFiles] section, type the following entry:
    *.acl
  3. Save changes and close the Proflwiz.ini file.
  4. Run the Office Profile Wizard by using this modified Proflwiz.ini file.
  5. Import this new .ops file into the Custom Installation Wizard when you create your transform.
  6. Install Office with this new transform.
