Symptoms

When you restart your computer after you install Microsoft Office 2000 successfully or apply the Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Update, your Microsoft Windows Desktop icons, Start button, and taskbar may not appear. Microsoft Windows may stop responding.

Cause

This problem can occur if your computer is infected with the Pretty Park virus.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.


To verify that the virus is on the computer, check the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\exefile\shell\open\command

If the Data string displays the following, the computer is infected with the Pretty Park virus:
FILES32.VXD "%1" %*
