Error message when you click Register Now in Word to register your blog account in SharePoint Online: "Word cannot register your account"

Problem

You create a new blog post in Microsoft Word. Then, you click Register Now�in Word to register your blog account in Microsoft SharePoint Online. However, you can't register your blog account. Instead, you receive the following error message:

Solution

To resolve this issue, run the Office 365 Desktop Setup Tool to set up and configure your Office desktop applications to work with Microsoft Office 365. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Visit the following Microsoft website:
  2. Under Set up and configure your Office desktop apps, click Set up.

This issue occurs if Word isn't yet configured to work with Office 365.

Currently, Microsoft Word is the only desktop blog publishing application that's supported in Office 365. Other desktop blog publishing applications such as Windows Live Writer 2011 aren't supported and will be unable to authenticate to Office 365.
