To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
- If the Microsoft Office 2000 Setup dialog box (with CD key boxes) is still displayed, click Cancel.
- Click Yes to the prompt that confirms your choice to quit Setup, and then click OK.
- In the \Windows\System folder, rename the Imagehlp.dll file to Imagehlp.old.
- Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type a command line similar to the following:
path\msi\instmsi.exe /c /t:c:\msifiles
where path is the path to your Office Setup files. For example, if you are using an Office 2000 CD, this is your CD-ROM drive letter.
This expands the contents of the Instmsi.exe package into the C:\msifiles folder.
- Copy Imagehlp.dll from the C:\msifiles folder into your \Windows\System folder.
- Run Office Setup.
NOTE: If you run Office Setup with a command line similar to the following, the error message in the "Symptoms" section of this article does not appear (even with the incorrect version of the Imagehlp.dll file):
path\Setup NOIE=true
where
path is the full path to your Office Setup files. However, if you use NOIE=true on the command line when you install Office, Internet Explorer is not updated to version 5.0.
