Symptoms

When you attempt to install Microsoft Office 2000, you receive one of the following error messages, although you are a member of a group that has administrator permissions:
Installing this product requires Administrative privileges on systems running this version of Windows
-or-
Microsoft Office 2000 Setup needs to replace some Windows components. This requires Administrative rights. Please log in as an administrator to complete Microsoft Office 2000 Setup.

Cause

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • You are running Setup on one of the following platforms:

    • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
    • Microsoft Windows 2000

    -and-

  • -and-You are a member of a large number of groups.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
