Symptoms

When you press F9 to recalculate your worksheet in Microsoft Excel, the formulas in your worksheet may appear to calculate incorrect values.

Cause

This issue occurs when you repeatedly press or hold down F9 to recalculate your worksheet. By design, Excel halts the recalculation of your worksheet when you press a key on your keyboard. Under normal circumstances, you may never notice this behavior. However, this behavior may appear to be a problem when you are using circular references in your worksheet.

Note When you press CTRL, SHIFT, or PRINT SCREEN, the calculation process is not halted.

Workaround

To prevent this issue, press F9 and do not press any other key on your keyboard until Excel has completely recalculated your worksheet.
