When you install Microsoft Office, the amount of hard disk space required may vary, depending on the type of installation you perform and the version of Office. This article contains a listing of the amount of space required for the various types of installation.

More information

There are several different types of installations for the different versions of Office. The different versions of Office are Standard, Professional, Small Business Edition, and Premium. On CD1 and CD2 the installation options are Install Now, Custom, Run from My Computer, Run from CD, Administrative, and Run from Network. CD3 uses a different Setup program and offers the Typical and Custom installation options.

Note All numbers are based on the FAT32 file system on Microsoft Windows 98 with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 installed prior to installing Office. The disk space requirements may vary slightly based on the file system and the cluster size that you are using.

The hard disk space required may increase if you do not have Internet Explorer 4.01 with the Windows Desktop Update installed on your computer before you install Office.

The following table lists the maximum hard disk space in megabytes (MB) required for each type of installation.
