Excel HTML file always displayed at 100 percent zoom

Symptoms

When you view a Microsoft Excel workbook in a Web browser, the workbook appears to be at a zoom setting of 100 percent. However, you saved it at a different zoom setting.

Cause

This behavior occurs when one of the following conditions is true:
  • You click Save in the Save as Web Page dialog box, and then view the resulting HTML file in a browser.
  • You click Publish in the Save as Web Page dialog box, and then view the resulting HTML file in a browser.
  • In Microsoft Office Excel 2003 and in earlier versions of Excel, you view the file by clicking Web Page Preview on the File menu.

    In Microsoft Office Excel 2007, you click Web Page Preview on the Quick Access Toolbar.

    Note To add the Web Page Preview option to the Quick Access Toolbar, follow these steps:
    1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
    2. In the left pane, select the Customize category.
    3. In the right pane, select All Commands in the Choose commands from list, select Web Page Preview, and then click OK.

More information

Excel saves workbooks in HTML by using a 100 percent zoom setting. HTML does not have the ability to scale its output.

Note This behavior occurs in all browsers. It is not browser-specific.
