The following tables list the installation types for Office
and whether the Setup program installs the Office Shortcut Bar when you select
a particular installation type.
Setup Type
----------------------------
Install Now Yes(1)
Upgrade Now Yes(2)
Custom Yes(3)
Run from Network No(4)
Run from CD No(4)
Notes:
(1) An icon is installed in the
Microsoft Office Tools subfolder in the
Programs folder of the
Start menu, however when clicked it will install the OSB on first use.
(2) Only if it is installed under the version of Office you are
upgrading from.
(3) If you click
Microsoft Office and click "
Run all from My Computer", "
Run all from the Network", "
Run all from the CD", or specifically choose the OSB from the
Office Tools list of components.
(4) The Office Shortcut Bar is not
started automatically, however a shortcut to the Office Shortcut Bar is
installed in the
Microsoft Office Tools subfolder of the
Programs folder on
Start menu.
Starting the Office Shortcut Bar
If you start the Office Shortcut Bar from the Microsoft Office
Shortcut Bar shortcut in the Office Tools folder, the following message appears
Would you like to configure the Office Shortcut Bar to start
automatically whenever Windows is started?
and you can click
Yes or
No. If you click
Yes, the
Autostart registry value is set to 1 (one) in the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Shortcut Bar
The next time you start Windows, the Office Shortcut
Bar is automatically started.
NOTE: A shortcut to the Microsoft Office (Osa9.exe) program must be in
your StartUp folder in order for the Office Shortcut Bar to run at startup. The
Osa9.exe program contains a
-l (lowercase letter L) switch that starts the Office Shortcut Bar.
If you click
No, the Office Shortcut Bar starts, but the
Autostart registry value is set to 0 (zero) and the OSB does not
automatically start the next time you start Windows.
Exiting the Office Shortcut Bar
With the Office Shortcut Bar running, if you right-click the
Office Shortcut Bar title bar, and then click
Exit on the shortcut menu, the following message appears:
You are closing the Office Shortcut Bar. The Office Shortcut Bar will
start again automatically when you start Windows. Do you want the Office
Shortcut Bar to start automatically when you start Windows?
You can then click
Yes or
No.
If you click
Yes, the Office Shortcut Bar continues to appear every time you
restart your computer.
If you click
No, the next time you restart your computer, the Office Shortcut Bar
is not started because it has reset the
Autostart registry value (see above) to 0 (zero).
NOTE: If you run the Office Setup program in Maintenance Mode, the
Setup program indicates that the Office Shortcut Bar is installed.
