To create a new OST file, follow these steps:
- Quit the Microsoft Exchange Client program.
- Rename any existing OST files so that each file has a .old file name extension.
An OST file uses the .ost file name extension. - Restart the Exchange Client program in the online mode.
Note You may have to configure your profile to start the Exchange Client program in the online mode if it is configured to start offline. - When you receive the following message, click OK:
The file "C:\Exchange directory\file name.ost could not be
found
- In the Offline Folder File Settings dialog
box that appears, click OK.
Note You can also change the path and the file name of the OST file in this dialog box. - When you receive the following message, click Yes:
The file c:\Exchange directory\file name.ost could not be found.

The Exchange Client program then starts in online mode. - On the Tools menu, click Synchronize - All folders.
The new offline folder is synchronized with the Exchange Server computer. You can now configure the Exchange Client program to start in offline mode by using the new OST file.
