Exchange ActiveSync crashes on an Exchange Server 2007 server causing the client synchronization to be unavailable

Symptoms

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync crashes on a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 server. Therefore, the client synchronization is unavailable. Additionally, you find the following event in the Application log:


Event Type: Warning
Event ID: 5011
Event Source: Microsoft-Windows-WAS
Description:
A process serving application pool 'MSExchangeSyncAppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was 'xxxx'. The data field contains the error number.

When this problem occurs, if you try to run the Test-ActivesyncConnectivity Cmdlet in Exchange Management Shell, you may receive the following error message:
[System.Net.WebException]: The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable.

To resolve this problem, install the following update rollup:
