Symptoms

When you try to save some edits to a Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 presentation that is located on a server, you receive the following error message:
Upload Failed This file is locked for editing by user_name.
Noteuser_name is the placeholder for your user name.

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • The presentation is encrypted by a password.
  • The presentation is created by another user.
  • The presentation is still opened by the user.

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Save a local copy of the presentation after you make the changes.
  2. Close the presentation.
  3. Ask the original author to close the presentation.
  4. Open the presentation again.
  5. Merge the changes with the presentation that is located on the server.
