The taskbar is displayed as blank when you run Internet Explorer 7 after you install security update 976325 (MS09-072)

Symptoms

You install security update 976325 (MS09-072) on a computer that has Windows Internet Explorer 7 installed. When you run Windows Internet Explorer 7 in full-screen mode or in Kiosk mode, the taskbar is displayed as blank and without any icons.

Notes
  • To run Internet Explorer in full-screen mode, start Internet Explorer and then press F11.
  • To run Internet Explorer in Kiosk mode, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start
      , and then click Run.
    2. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
      iexplore -k <URL>

      Note <URL> represents the URL of the Web page that you want to open in Kiosk mode. If you do not provide a URL, Internet Explorer loads your homepage.

Workaround

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the taskbar, and then clear the Keep the taskbar on top of other windows taskbar check box.
  2. Select the Auto-hide the taskbar check box.
