You cannot upgrade the cluster nodes of a clustered mailbox server to Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 2

Consider the following scenario:

• You have a clustered mailbox server (CMS) that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
• You upgrade the cluster nodes of the CMS to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

In this scenario, during the Exchange Server Prerequisite Check phase of the upgrade process, the upgrade fails. Additionally,�you receive the following error message:

This issue occurs when your user account is not a member of Exchange Server Administrator role group and the account does not have local administrator permissions on all nodes in the cluster. When you try to upgrade an Exchange cluster node, the Setup program checks for permissions on the node itself and does not check for permissions on the CMS.

To resolve this issue, upgrade the cluster nodes of the CMS to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3 (SP3). To obtain the latest Exchange Server 2007 service pack or rollup update, visit the following Microsoft website:�

To work around this issue, make sure that you use a user account that is a member of the node's Exchange Organization Administrators group or of the Enterprise Administrators group�when you install Exchange Server 2007 SP2.
