Introduction

Issue that this hotfix package fixes

  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You have an Excel 2007 workbook that has more than 4000 cell styles. This includes many custom styles.
    • You check for compatibility with Excel 2003 by using the Compatibility Checker function.
In this scenario, if the number of styles in the Excel 2007 workbook exceeds the number that is supported by Excel 2003, you should receive a warning message. However, you do not receive the warning message.
  • You install the update that is described in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 959997. In Excel 2007, when you publish a chart to the Single File Web Page (*.mht; *.mhtml) file format through a name range, the published Web page is blank.

Note This issue does not occur if you remove the update.
  • When you close Excel 2007, it may consume 100 percent of CPU resources if the following conditions are true:
    • The file format of the workbook is Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls).
    • The workbook was opened from a SharePoint document library.
    • The SharePoint document library contains some custom type columns, for example: People, Group, or Lookup.
    • When the workbook is first uploaded from the SharePoint document library, you click Cancel on the Edit form page to finish uploading. Or, the workbook is uploaded through Windows Explorer view.
    • In Excel 2007, the Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls) file format is selected in the Save files in this format list.

  • You create an Excel workbook that contains a PivotTable that uses a cube. If the design of the cube is changed, the PivotTable is corrupted after you update the PivotTable against the new cube and then save the workbook. When you open the workbook, you receive the following error message:

Excel Found unreadable content in 'FileName.xlsx'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook?

  • In an Excel 2007 workbook, you insert a comment or a button form control, and you format a column by using the wrap text alignment. When you scroll down by using the mouse wheel, a sheet that contains frozen panes displays previously hidden cells incorrectly.
  • In Excel 2007, if you select the Formulas option and an operation in the Paste Special dialog box, the formula is not pasted. Instead, the value that is calculated by the formula is pasted.
  • In PowerPoint 2003 presentations, you insert charts by using Excel 2003 and set the zoom level to a value other than 100 percent. When you open the presentation in PowerPoint 2007 and edit the charts, the size of the fonts is incorrect.
  • You open an .xls file that contains formulas in Excel 2007, save the file by giving it a different name, and then close the file. When you open the file that has the different name, you may receive the following error message:

File Error: Data may have been lost

Additionally, the formulas are replaced with the value "=#N/A"
  • When you record a macro in the Spanish version of Excel 2007, you create a PivotTable. When you run the macro, you may receive the following error message:

Run-time error 5: Invalid procedure call or argument

  • When you convert an .xls file to the Office Open XML file format, the original .xls file remains in the folder. The original file should be deleted after the conversion.
  • 973823 Conditional formatting rules are duplicated when you copy and then paste cells in Excel 2007
