Public folder replication messages stay in the local delivery queue and cause an Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 database to grow quickly

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

In a mixed Microsoft Exchange environment, public folders can be replicated from Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1). However, in some cases, the public folder replication messages stay in the MapiDelivery queue. These messages are retried periodically on the Exchange Server 2007 SP1 server that has the Hub Transport role installed. Therefore, the Exchange database grows quickly and exhausts the disk space. Additionally, the following warning or error messages are logged repeatedly when this problem occurs.
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeIS Public Store
Event Category: Transport Delivering
Event ID: 2091
Description:
A message deliver to public folder store "<Storage Group>\<Store>" with message class IPM.NOTE is being dropped
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS Public Store
Event Category: Replication Errors
Event ID: 3093
Description:
Error -2147221233 reading property <xxxxxxxx> on object type tbtMsgFolder from database "<Storage Group>\<Store>".

Cause

This issue occurs when Exchange Server 2007 SP1 cannot convert certain replication messages to MAPI items because the messages are missing some TNEF data. In this case, Exchange 2007 SP1 RU7 incorrectly generates an error and the error messages that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section are submitted repeatedly.
