Incorrect error message when an Exchange Server 2007 user performs a quick search in Outlook Web Access: "Search results may take a long time to appear because Microsoft Exchange Search is unavailable"

Symptoms

On a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 server, an Exchange administrator stops the Microsoft Search (Exchange) service for resource reasons. In this case, Outlook Web Access users receive the following error when they run quick searches:
Search results may take a long time to appear because Microsoft Exchange Search is unavailable. Results will not include matches in the e-mail body.
Users can still perform the search, and it may take a long time. However, the returned results do include matches in the e-mail body.

Workaround

To work around this issue, enable the Microsoft Search (Exchange) service on the Exchange Server 2007 server.

More information

By default, when users click a mailbox folder in OWA, a search box appears at the top of message list. Users may enter query words and perform a quick search.
