A non-delivery report (NDR) is returned when a user sends an e-mail message to an X.400 address that includes the slash field separator in Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1

Symptoms

In an Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) environment, when a user sends an e-mail message to an X.400 address that uses the slash field separator (/) instead of a semicolon (;), the message is not delivered and a non-delivery report (NDR) that resembles the following is generated:
#550 5.1.2 ROUTING.InvalidX400Address; invalid x400 address ##

Note This issue does not occur in Exchange Server 2003.

Cause

Before Update Rollup 9, Exchange Server 2007 SP1 did not support the slash character as a valid field separator of an X.400 address.

To resolve this problem, install Update Rollup 9 for Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1.
