Symptoms

When you use the Export-Mailbox to export items from a Microsoft Exchange 2007 mailbox to a .pst file by using a filter, the export fails for some mailboxes. The following error message appears in the Exchange Management Shell:
Export-Mailbox : Error was found for <username> (<SMTP address>) because: Error occurred in the step: Moving messages. Failed to copy messages to the destination mailbox store with error:

Cause

This problem occurs when any items in the .pst file fall outside the filter restriction. For example, if you set the restriction that the subject of a message is "test," some messages that have other subjects exist in the .pst file.

Note The .pst file is also known as a dumpster folder. A dumpster folder holds permanently deleted messages until a store cleanup occurs.
