Extended characters are replaced by question marks when you send an e-mail message that contains extended ASCII characters by using an IMAP4 client in Exchange 2007

Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, you send a message by using an IMAP4 client. The message contains extended ASCII characters, such as �, �, and so on. In this scenario, when another user receives the message, the extended ASCII characters are replaced with question marks.

When an Exchange 2007 server receives an APPEND command from the IMAP4 client for the message body in separate packets, an incorrect conversion occurs. This causes the extended ASCII characters to be replaced with question marks.

To resolve this problem, install Update Rollup 8 for Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1.
