Error message when you try to open an Excel 2007 binary workbook in an earlier version of Excel: "File error: Data may have been lost"

Symptoms

In a Microsoft Office Excel 2007 workbook, you enter a formula that uses the XIRR function and the INDIRECT function. Then, you save the workbook in the Excel Binary Workbook (.xlsb) file format. When you open this workbook in an earlier version of Excel, you receive the following error message:
File error: Data may have been lost
Additionally, when you save the workbook in the earlier version of Excel, the formula is lost.

Resolution
