The "test-*" command fails when you run it on a site that contains only CAS roles in an Exchange 2007 environment

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment, some customers deploy active directory sites that contain only Client Access Server (CAS) roles. These computers are acting as CAS proxies. When you run the test-* commands for protocols that are supported in proxying, the commands fail. This occurs because these commands expect a mailbox server in the same site. Therefore, some customers are unable to run these commands against any of the servers in this proxy-only site. For example, you run the following command in a site that contains only CAS roles:
Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity -MailboxServer <mailbox server name>
When you run this command, you receive the following error message:
The specified mailbox server <mailbox server name> was not found.
...
WARNING: No suitable Mailbox servers were found to test.
WARNING: No Client Access servers were tested.
Note The affected commands include the following commands:
  • Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity
  • Test-OwaConnectivity
  • Test-WebServicesConnectivity

Resolution

To resolve this problem, install Update Rollup 8 for Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1.

For more information about Update Rollup 8 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1, see the following Exchange Help topic: For more information about how to obtain the latest Exchange service pack or update rollup, see the following Exchange Help topic:After you apply this fix, an additional -Site paramater is introduced for these commands. You can point to a specific site that has mailbox server for connectivity tests. For example, you can run the following command:
"Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity Site <mailbox server site> -MailboxServer <mailbox server name>"
