Internet Explorer 6 may crash randomly when you browse some Web sites that display a PNG file on a Windows Server 2003-based computer

Symptoms

You use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 on a Windows Server 2003-based computer to browse some Web sites that display a Portable Network Graphics (PNG) file. When you do this, Internet Explorer may crash randomly. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Note This problem does not occur if you use Windows Internet Explorer 7 to browse the Web site.

Cause

An access violation causes this problem in Internet Explorer 6. The access violation is caused by an error in the Pngfilt.dll file.

Resolution

Hotfix information
