Error message when you try to resume a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 from hibernation: "STOP 0x0000009F"

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.
  • A compact flash (CF) card is plugged into a CF card slot on the computer.
  • You try to resume the computer from hibernation (S4).
In this scenario, the computer may stop responding instead of resuming correctly. Eventually, you may receive the following Stop error message:
*** STOP: 0x0000009F (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
This problem occurs only occasionally.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites
