How to use the Delegate Access feature in Microsoft Office Outlook

View products that this article applies to.

Summary

This article contains information about how to use the Delegate Access feature in Microsoft Office Outlook to delegate a user's mailbox to another user. In Outlook, a user can allow another person, known as a delegate, to receive and respond to meeting requests or responses and to send e-mail messages on the user's behalf. When a delegate has Send on Behalf Of permissions, the delegate can compose an e-mail message and enter the user's name in the From box. Recipients of the e-mail message will see the text "
DelegateName on behalf of UserName" next to the From box.

For example, an IT Gen contacts Microsoft Online Services Technical Support for help on how to perform basic delegation (without Send As). The IT Gen wants to delegate User A's mailbox in Outlook to User B so that User B has Send on Behalf of permissions to User A's mailbox. The IT Gen can use the resources that are listed in this article for more information about how to do this.
