The SPN registration of a cluster fails, and Error event IDs 1119 and 1034 are logged in an Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 environment

Symptoms

You try to set up a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) cluster in a disjointed namespace. However, the service principal name (SPN) registration fails when the System Attendant Resource is brought online. And, an Error event is logged that resembles the following:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: ClusSvc
Event Category: Network Name Resource
Event ID: 1119
Description:
The registration of DNS name <FQDN> for resource '<network name>' over adapter 'Local Area Connection' failed for the following reason:
DNS bad key.

Additionally, the registration fails every time that you bring the System Attendant Resource online. In this case, an Error event is logged that resembles the following:

Event Type:�Error
Event Source:�MSExchange Cluster
Event Category:�ExRes
Event ID:�1034
Description:
Clustered Mailbox Server: <network name> Physical Server: <computer name> Failed to register the Exchange-specific service principal names in Active Directory while bringing resource 'Exchange System Attendant Instance (<network name>)' online. Impersonation was attempted using the computer account.

Note A service principal name (SPN) is the name by which a client uniquely identifies an instance of a service.

Download and install Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1.
