An Exchange 2007 room mailbox stops processing requests after the resource booking assistant receives a delegated meeting request from an Exchange 2003 user

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 user configures an Exchange Server 2007 resource mailbox or room mailbox as a delegate, meeting requests sent to the Exchange 2003 user are forwarded to the Exchange 2007 resource mailbox. When this happens, later requests and responses that include this resource are not processed.

Cause

In this scenario, the resource booking assistant of the room mailbox tries to open the calendar folder of the Exchange 2003 meeting attendee. This issue occurs because the resource booking assistant cannot communicate with Exchange 2003 stores. When this behavior occurs, the resource booking assistant cannot process later request responses.

More information

You may set a room mailbox as the delegate and then configure the room mailbox for Automatic Booking. A meeting request that is sent to you will be automatically accepted by the delegate. Therefore, you do not have to respond to the request.

Note To set a resource mailbox as the delegate, use Microsoft Office Outlook in Cache mode.
