Web-related applications may not work correctly after you install cumulative security update for Internet Explorer MS08-024 (KB947864)

Symptoms

On a computer that has cumulative security update for Internet Explorer MS08-024 (KB947864) installed, some Web-related applications may not work correctly. For example, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • A licensed ActiveX control may disappear in Internet Explorer. This issue may occur if the license package (.lpk) file for the ActiveX control was downloaded by using the "Cache-Control:no-cache" HTTP header.
  • When you use Internet Explorer to visit a Web page that contains a video, the video cannot be played.
  • Calls to the UrlDownloadToCacheFile function return an empty cache file.
  • Calls to the UrlDownloadToCacheFile function return a cache file that cannot be opened. Additionally, a memory leak may occur after these function calls.

The symptoms that you may experience are not limited to those that are described in the "Symptoms" section. If any operation calls the UrlDownloadToCacheFile function, problems may occur. For example, the LPK download manager in Internet Explorer calls the UrlDownloadToCacheFile function. Therefore, you may have problems when you use the LPK download manager.
