Symptoms

In an Exchange 2007 environment, you have deployed a Unified Messaging (UM) server that uses a regular (TCP) gateway and a secure (TLS) gateway. When users try to contact the UM server by using secured connections, the calls may not be routed to the UM server. Typically, this problem occurs in a UM and Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 integrated environment. When this problem occurs, the following event is logged in Application log on the UM server:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchange Unified Messaging
Event Category: UMService
Event ID: 1113
Description: The Unified Messaging server failed to exchange the required certificates with an IP gateway to enable Transport Layer Security (TLS) for an incoming call. Please check that this is a configured TLS peer and that the correct certificates are being used. More information: A TLS failure occurred because the target name that was specified in the certificate is incorrect. The error code was "1" and the message was Incorrect function".

Note You can temporarily resolve this problem by restarting the Unified Messaging service on the computer. However, this problem occurs again several hours or days later.
