Symptoms

After you migrate mailboxes from different Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) e-mail systems to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based server, Microsoft Office Outlook or Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access users experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The received time of their messages is changed to the time of the migration.
  • The destination messages may not be displayed in the correct time/date order. Additionally, conversation threads are not displayed as expected.
  • The received date and time of messages differ from the received date and time that are displayed when you view them by using the IMAP protocol.

Cause

This problem occurs because the application that is used to migrate IMAP e-mail messages uses the APPEND command. When Exchange 2007 processes the APPEND command, the MessageDeliveryTime field is updated with the time of migration. However, Outlook and Outlook Web Access clients use the MessageDeliveryTime field as the received time.
