Messages to a Distribution List are delayed in an Exchange Server 2007 environment

Symptoms

It takes you a long time to expand a Distribution List in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment. Therefore, messages that are delivered to this Distribution List are delayed.

Notes
  • This issue usually occurs if the Distribution List contains lots of groups or users.
  • This issue does not occur in an Exchange Server 2003 environment.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Exchange Server 2007 server does not cache the result of the Distribution List expansion, and directly makes queries to the Active Directory directory service.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, download Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3 (SP3) from the following Microsoft website, and then install it on the Exchange Server 2007 server:�
