Symptoms

When you use the Outlook Anywhere feature to connect to an Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1�based server that is running Windows Server 2008, you are prompted for your credentials three times. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Microsoft Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

Cause

Windows Server 2008 prefers to use IPv6 protocol instead of the IPv4 protocol. The Exchange 2007 server does not listen to some specific ports on IPv6 that are used for Outlook Anywhere. Therefore, this problem occurs.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, download Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1. Then, install the update on the Exchange server.
