In
a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment, you develop a Collaboration Data
Objects 1.2.1 (CDO)-based application to generate meeting requests or
appointments. However, when the meeting request contains certain
European characters in the message body, such as "", the received meeting
request substitutes question marks (?) for those characters.

This issue occurs because the CDO 1.2.1 application
generates the meeting request by using a default Windows code page 1252. In
Exchange 2007, CD0 1.2.1
maps Windows code page 1252 characters to ISO-8859-1 characters
for the message body. Therefore, the application loses
some European characters.
Note Originally, Windows code page 1252, the code page that is usually used
for English and other Western European languages, was based on an American
National Standards Institute (ANSI) draft. That draft eventually became ISO
8859-1, but Windows code page 1252 was implemented before the standard became
final, and it is not identical to ISO 8859-1.
