Symptoms

You cannot view the Mailbox role in the Exchange Management Console after Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Update Rollup 2 or Exchange Server 2007 Update Rollup 3 is automatically installed by Windows Update. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
Active Directory server is not available. Error message: A local error occurred.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  • Use a domain administrator account to log on to the computer.
  • Rename the administrator profile.
  • Log off the computer, and then use the domain administrator account to log on again.
