The EdgeTransport.exe process crashes intermittently, and event ID 1033 is logged in Exchange Server 2007

Symptoms

You have a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment. When an Exchange Server 2007 server is used as a mailbox server that holds mailboxes for users from another forest, the EdgeTransport.exe process crashes intermittently. Additionally, the following error is logged in the Application log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeTransport
Event Category: SmtpReceive
Event ID: 1033
Description:
An exception was thrown while processing data from client IP address xx.xx.xx.xx. The exception is system.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted at Microsoft.Exchange.Security.Authorization.AuthzAuthorization.GetAuthzContext(SecurityIdentifier securityIdentifier, Boolean skipTokenGroup) Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchange Common Event Category: General Event ID: 4999 Description: Watson report about to be sent to dw20.exe for process id: <process ID of edgetransport.exe>, with parameters: E12, <processor>, <version>, edgetransport, M.E.Net, M.E.S.A.AuthzAuthorization.GetAuthzContext, S.ComponentModel.Win32Exception, 577a, <version>. To resolve this problem, install Update Rollup 2 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1.
