Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1
The following list contains important things to consider when you install Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1 on a computer that is running Exchange Server 2007 SP1:
- You can use one of the following methods to install Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1:
- A full installation of Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1
- An in-place upgrade of the release version of Forefront Security for Exchange Server
- Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1 is currently the only release of Forefront Security for Exchange that is compatible with Exchange Server 2007 SP1. Also, Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1 is currently the only release of Forefront Security for Exchange that is supported for use with Exchange Server 2007 SP1.
- Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1 is supported for use with the following versions of Exchange Server 2007:
- The release version of Exchange Server 2007
- Exchange Server 2007 SP1
Note Although you may be able to successfully install the release version of Forefront Security for Exchange Server on a computer that is running Exchange Server 2007 SP1, this kind of installation is not supported. The following sections describe two scenarios in which you do not receive a warning message or an error message when you install the release version of Forefront Security for Exchange Server on a computer that is running Exchange Server 2007 SP1.
Scenario 1
If the Exchange Server 2007 SP1-based computer has the Transport role installed, you do not receive a warning message or an error message when you install the release version of Forefront Security for Exchange Server. However, in this scenario, the MSTransport service does not start successfully after Forefront Security for Exchange Server is installed.
Scenario 2
If the Exchange Server 2007 SP1-based computer has the Mailbox role installed, you do not receive a warning message or an error message when you install the release version of Forefront Security for Exchange Server. However, we do not support this configuration.
Exchange Server 2007 SP1
You cannot install Exchange Server 2007 SP1 on a computer that is running the release version of Forefront Security for Exchange Server (version 10.0.0.0566.0). If you try to install Exchange Server 2007 SP1 on a computer that is running the release version of Forefront Security for Exchange Server, you receive an error message.
Note You cannot install Exchange Server 2007 SP1 on a computer that is running the release version of Forefront Security for Exchange Server even if the Forefront Security for Exchange Server services are stopped. This behavior occurs because of a file version verification check that the service pack installation wizard performs.
Installation information
To install Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1, follow these general installation steps:
- Upgrade the release version of Forefront Security for Exchange Server to Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1.
- Upgrade the release version of Exchange Server 2007 to Exchange Server 2007 SP1.
Exchange hotfix and service pack installation information
To install any appropriate hotfix or service pack on a computer that is running Exchange Server 2007 together with Forefront Security for Exchange Server, follow these steps:
- Stop all Exchange-related services. Also, stop any Forefront Security for Exchange Server-related services that may be running after Exchange has stopped.
- Run the FSCUtility tool to disconnect Forefront Security for Exchange Server from Exchange. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start a command prompt, and then change the directory to that of the Forefront Security for Exchange Server installation.
- Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
FSCUtility /disable
- Install the service pack or the hotfix.
- Start the Exchange-related services, and then verify that all the Exchange-related services are running.
- Stop all the Exchange-related services.
- Run the FSCUtility tool to connect Forefront Security for Exchange Server to Exchange. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start a command prompt, and then change the directory to that of the Forefront Security for Exchange Server installation.
- Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
FSCUtility /enable
- Start the Exchange-related services.
